The Waiting Room (1996)

A large train station, it might be anywhere in a big city. Waiting passengers, some are curiously observing each other, some are too much involved with their own petty problems to pay attention to anything else. Our man, self- assured, practically undresses some of the woman present with his eyes, at least as long as his wife is absent, trying to get them some coffee. A beauty in blue returns his challenging looks, he can hardly believe it's true. Obviously, it is his lucky day today. By the time his wife returns our man has experienced some astonishing things under the watchful eyes of the fellow passengers. And most probably he will be much more reserved next time he sees a beautiful blonde.

This movie was pretty good, right up until the end scene which I found to be so silly.

Good relationship drama about the grass always seeming greener on the other side. Movie starts out in a nice pace, looses the plot a little in the middle but picks up at the end.

Why can't all British films be like this? Little seen on its cinema release this charming little comedy drama has two great central performances from the always reliable Anne-Marie Duff and Ralf Little who proves that his acting goes beyond crappy BBC3 sitcoms. The script gives a brilliant portrayal of two lost souls who are both trapped in very different relationships which are going nowhere fast. There are also great supporting performances from Rupert Graves as well as veterans Frank FInlay and Phyllida Law. Overall a great British romance that deserves to be scene and may find a home on DVD.

A good girlie chick flick. I enjoyed this movie even if Ralf Little did display a wee bit more male body that was absolutely neccessary, but hey boys will be boys.

In a movie like this, people usually miss the parent-child love stories. While it's not shown, Anna seems to realize that she has let her negative feelings about Toby disrupt the father-child bond. She rectifies that, just as she rectifies her betrayal of her friend, Jem. Meanwhile, George has gone off the rails, and that includes being an increasingly distant father and husband. That, too, is fixed. So, while the love-at-first-site story seems to be important, it is really not. The only thing that bothered me about the film was that the "hero" (Stephen) is unfair and distant to Fiona, and why should we feel that he will be any more understanding or communicative with Anna??
