When her country is taken over by socialist revolutionaries, a wealthy woman can't bear to give up all of her wealth and possessions to the new government, so she hides all of her treasures in the 12 chairs of a dining-room set. After her death her nephew finds out what she had done and, since the chairs had been "nationalized" and are now in the possession of a dozen different people, he sets out to track them down and get the treasures he believes rightfully belong to him.

An expropriated bourgeois, his ex-servant, and a priest go on a treasure hunt for twelve chairs, one of which contains jewels hidden by the bourgeois' mother during the Cuban Revolution. A very funny, droll and slapstick look at the declassed/lumpen remnants of the old society in the new society. And an inspiring look at revolutionary Cuban society.

Good film. Mirrors the story that stays very true to Ilf and Petrov's novel "The Twelve Chairs". The only real difference is that it is set in Cuba and Ostap played by Reynaldo Miravalles sees the error of his ways instead of dying in the book. It is interesting on how it compares to the Mel Brook's film by the same title. Recommended watching expectantly as a double feature with the Brook's film.
