Josh, a struggling musician, wins a vintage recliner in an eBay auction. Since he lives in New York and the chair is in Atlanta, this poses a bit of a problem. He asks his girlfriend, Emily, to accompany him on the trip, and his hippie brother Rhett joins the pair along the way.

Likable feature debut by sibling filmmakers Jay and Mark Duplass. Mark stars as Josh, a struggling musician who decides to take a road trip back home for his father's birthday, picking up the titular chair along the way. His girlfriend (Kathryn Aselton) tags along, but the stress of the trip strains the relationship, as does the eventual addition of Josh's brother to the journey. For all its low budget trappings, "The Puffy Chair" manages to capture the emotional core of a disintegrating relationship without all the theatrical histrionics of most Hollywood romantic comedies.

The Puffy Chair is a love it or hate it film. So simply put, just ask yourself a few questions before you queue this, and you might save yourself from having to tell everyone how much you hate this; Do you like movies that are plot oriented? Do you enjoy character studies? Do you enjoy John Cassavetes films? This is a very minimalist movie, but I love that kind of thing. I like movies where you are more engaged by what is being said, and how it is being said, as well as body language. This movie just oozes reality. And understandably some folks don't like their movies to "feel" real. So if you are that person, skip this film, you'll probably hate it. On the other hand, if you like all the things I mentioned, just rent this right away. You'll love what the Duplass brothers are cooking up!

Real characters, real humor, and real emotion, regardless how trivial or silly it may seem. I liked watching these people. Good stuff.
