The Tillman Story (2010)

Pat Tillman never thought of himself as a hero. His choice to leave a multimillion-dollar football contract and join the military wasn't done for any reason other than he felt it was the right thing to do. The fact that the military manipulated his tragic death in the line of duty into a propaganda tool is unfathomable and thoroughly explored in Amir Bar-Lev's riveting and enraging documentary.

It reaches beyond the facts of Tillman's story to arrive at key, universal truths about the ways our heroes are made and defined.

This was without a doubt THE most compelling and emotionally gripping documentary I've watched in 12 months. Whatever your views are on the war or the politics around it, Pat Tillman was a hero and this is the painful investigative truth. Do not miss this one, trust me.

Watching the film, emotions range from sadness, of course, to frustration to outright anger.

it's quite sad (and one would think, unlikely) that a family would have to examine records of their own son's death to find out what happened. but then, having the military admit there was a deliberate attempt to deceive the public seems pretty unlikely, too. it's a shame the former has actually happened and the latter has not.
