The Thaw (2009)

At a remote Arctic research station, four ecology students discover the real horror of global warming is not the melting ice, but what's frozen within it. A prehistoric parasite is released from the carcass of a Woolly Mammoth upon the unsuspecting students who are forced to quarantine and make necessary sacrifices, or risk infecting the rest of the world.

Not exactly the best natural horror movie. I couldn't still find anything that beats The Ruins.

i like the part when the black man cut is arm. what if this kind of infestation is real, what will you going to do?

Too damn predictable, while being WAY too reminiscent of "The Thing," "Cabin Fever" and even "Slither." Acting left a lot to be desired too, but really now, Val Kilmer is the only one with any decent experience here.

Reminiscent of 'The Thing' but not nearly as well-crafted or smart. Enjoyable enough, a few unintentional laughs, several eye rolls at the characters and the dumb decisions they make, some moments made me genuinely cringe. I got bummed out by the polar bear scenes and am petrified of bugs...so overall, it was unpleasant for me but in a squirmy, tense way that I'm sure was the goal of the production. 3 stars because it served it's purpose.

Pretty cool little isolation horror movie. Has some cool ideas about global warming. Draws much on things like Bug, The Thing, X-Files, etc. Not groundbreaking or anything, but effective enough.
