Exceptional samurai film and character study. When George Lucas was lifting things from samurai movies for Star Wars, this is the one he needed to lift from for Revenge of the Sith.

This is yet another relatively little-known gem I've uncovered. An amoral young samurai who kills without remorse is consumed by evil. Fantastically shot and very gripping piece of work. Tatsuya Nakadai delivers a great performance in the lead. The ending though will frustrate a number of people, just be forewarned.

Loved a movie where the main character is this straight up evil guy. He's not doing bad things because he believes they're right, he's doing them because they're just bad. "Evil mind, Evil Sword." The abrupt ending caught me off guard.

Absolutely amazing on every level. Beautiful, horrifying, and just plain kick-ass awesome. Nakadai's peformance is brilliant and Okamoto's direction is masterful and flawless. A moving examination of evil as a force of nature, as an aspect of the yin and yang that must exist despite its terrible consequences.
