Great movie, what the movie reviewers get wrong is that they all watch movies so they haven't played much of the games so they don't get all the references, you need to watch it for yourself to truly understand. This movie is for players, not reviewers. this movie was trying to branch out from the normal "Bowser kidnaps peach" formula.

It is beyond any doubt that the Mario movie was not only made by very talented people, but also loyal fans. It's packed full of references and it really feels like the movie takes place in the Mario universe, instead of just using the names of the characters. This is definitely NOT a generic hollywood spin-off, no matter what you might see people say. It gives us much more story than any of the games, and it surprises me how natural it was to see the characters fully voiced; I legitimately think this movie could be a standalone entry in the Mario series. Illumination Paris also did an incredible job animating it, and it's graphics are top-notch. The critics, as usual, are completely disconnected and really don't know what they're talking about. Look at the user score, and no, it's not just people who like Mario or who are being nostalgic. This is the best animated film of the last few years.
