The Stalking Moon (1968)

While moving a group of Apaches to a Native American reservation in Arizona, an American scout named Sam Varner is surprised to find a white woman, Sarah Carver, living with the tribe. When Sam learns that she was taken captive by an Indian named Salvaje ten years ago, he attempts to escort Sarah and her half-Native American son to his home in New Mexico. However, it soon becomes clear that Salvaje is hot on their trail.

Sam Varner spent a lifetime fighting Apaches in Arizona and knows more about them than anyone. He needs every single ounce of his know how to stay alive after circumstances bring him up against the most dangerous apache warrior of all, Salvaje, in a duel to the death.

I liked this atmospheric western. Gregory Peck was quite convincing, and the secretive Solvaje made a great suspenseful menace. The build up of suspense was done very well, and the denouement was satisfying. An under appreciated Western.

A movie exceptional beauty and suspense. I liked atmospheric western. Beautiful scenes was in it. One of my best movies. The Stalking Moon. The story was very very good.

Moody and slightly slow western, but it does try and aim for a little more realism than the usual Hollywood production line efforts. Gregory Peck is solid enough as the scout with plenty of heart.

Classy production with an excellent cast, great photography, and a nice score. Too bad it's also rather boring. Worth watching if you like westerns and Gregory Peck.
