Even John Locke enthralled by Jacobean enthusiasm couldn't make sense of this one.

Bizzarre, off-beat and incoherent; the Shout surprised me with its originality and hermetic logic.

Hugely under-rated British horror movie (directed by a Pole) that is better, for me, than the extremely silly but far more celebrated 'Don't Look Now'. 'The Shout' has brilliant sound-design, innovative editing and a perfect cast, with a storyline that intrigues, reels you in and keeps you mesmerised once you are hooked. The three central perormances are spot-on but Susannah York is oddly the creepiest thing about this movie, and yes, The Shout itself is pretty darn good. If, like me, you are a fan of off-beat, imaginative horror then you reallly need to see this - an under-appreciated horror gem.

An overlooked classic small-scale (but not small ambition) Brit horror that shows a film doesn't need blood and gore to mess with your head.

Yay, they finally added one of my favorite movies to the Flixster database....this is such an interesting idea: Crossley (Alan Bates) is a shows up at the church that (Anthony Fielding) John Hurt plays organ at on Sundays. Crossley insinuates himself on Fielding and his wife (Susannah York) with Aboriginal magic. It's really well done & the shout is itself is very well done. Very much worth seeing this one.
