"His hand is so large for an Arab." Interessant als tijdsdocument zullen we maar zeggen. De cinematografie en score zijn daarentegen niet onaangenaam.

Rudolph Valentino! What more can I say? This movie has a lot of archaic ideas, and feels very goofy. But fun and escapist anyway. The lustful looks he gave that made so many women swoon in the 1920s come off a little maniacal and funny now, but he is irresistable nonetheless.

The film, directed by George Melford, has it both ways as it plays on the western fantasies of exoticism and romanticizes sexual slavery, but presents the Sheik as something of a prankster who treats the whole thing as a joke ...

The romantic adventures of Sheik Ahmed, who is bewitched by a British aristocrat and hopes to make her his concubine by keeping her locked away. The rhythm is a little outdated, but the setting and the charm of silent romantic epics doesn't come much better than this film, with its splendid desert photography and novel like structure. This film also stars the legendary Rudolph Valentino in one of his most memorable roles and best performances.

One of the best Valentino films. It is the movie that thrust him into super stardom in the 1920's and made women everywhere wet their panties and faint.
