Claustrophobic film-making carries a charge it's not easy to forget. Only Pinter could match it.

Dirk Bogarde plays an impish man-servant, who manipulates his way into taking over household as Master. Great film. Dirk Bogarde is yummy.

The ending really lets this film down. Without wanting to spoil anything, I expected the story to end and I don't think that it did really. The motives were missing for me, and it did seem to jump forward in time several times with no explanation of what might have caused the dynamic to change quite so dramatically. The performances were impressive though.

Nuts. Good old Pinter, I say. And Sarah Miles - OOH! Apparently she put her looks down to drinking her own piss, if you want a beauty tip. Nice soundtrack from Johnny and Cleo, and a brief appearance from folk legend Davy Graham.
