This is a truly great film and with an outstanding cast. Filmed in the 70's with a who's who of top performers and a few new up and coming stars. Yes, there are parts that can be cheesy...it was the 70's and at times the acting from the lead actress is not the best. But, it has a great plot and ending. There was a ton of contorversy when the movie came out due to the director using real human oddities in the end. The scene with Beverly D'Angelo is a little embarassing (I was watching this with my mom and if you've seen it then you know). I think that if it was made today with all the special effects, it would totally rock!

I liken this movie to Rosemary's Baby alot, similar themes and style. This is another one of those 60's/70's satan worship type films that really work for me. They are not gruesome but very eerie especially the final scene.

This took the brooding suspense of Rosemary’s Baby (1968) and the mythology of The Exorcist (1973) and mashed together a slow psychological horror. My biggest gripe was that it wasn't scary enough. There was one really scary scene around the middle that was so effective in building tension and then reaching a horrific climax with genuine fear long the way. Other than that and the ending, that was a bit creepy, this was a little disappointing. The pace is slow as most films were back in the seventies. This is well acted and suitably directed. It suffers from blandness when compared to much better films in the same genre from the same era. I didn't like the complete lack of supernatural special effects. I had to think. It would have been a lot scarier if I was a Christian.

weird & creepy esp. the bit with all the deformed freaks rising up from hell lead by BURGESS MEREDITH of all people. this filum is wall-to-wall old skool stars hamm(er?)ing it up in tiny roles. sweet
