The Ruling Class (1972)

When the Earl of Gurney dies in a cross-dressing accident, his schizophrenic son, Jack, inherits the Gurney estate. Jack is not the average nobleman; he sings and dances across the estate and thinks he is Jesus reincarnated. Believing that Jack is mentally unfit to own the estate, the Gurney family plots to steal Jack's inheritance. As their outrageous schemes fail, the family strives to cure Jack of his bizarre behavior, with disastrous results.

Great flick. Bright Brit wit and classic Peter O'Toole, at his shining best. Lovers of absurd, look thee no further!

Totally insane movie. A mix of satire,absurd humor,drama, musical comedy and commentary on mental illness. So much craziness tends to grate after a while and the movie goes on foe too long. But it's worth seeing just for the quotable dialogue and for O'Toole 's great performance.

The Ruling Class is a funny film. It is about a member of the House of Lords who dies, leaving his estate to his son. Peter O'Toole and Arthur Lowe give excellent performances. The screenplay is good but a little slow in places. Peter Medak did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the humor and drama. The Ruling Class is a must see.

Very dark comedy, original story that is such a weird concept but pulled off pretty nicely. Peter O'Toole becomes the new Earl after his father accidentally kills himself (in a pretty funny sequence). The problem is, O'Toole believes himself to be God. Such a great performance from him, I didn't mind that some of the moments were a little too weird (like the electric fight between the two "Gods"). But anyway, some pretty memorable moments. And a little tidbit, the British actor Jason Carter that I got to work with on a B horror movie this past winter told me that Peter O'Toole's performance in this film is what inspired him to be an actor. Pretty cool.

unlike any other movie I've ever seen All I can say is, "see it."
