The Rookie (1990)

Veteran cop Nick Pulovski is used to playing musical partners; many of the partners he's had in the past have died on the job, and often as a result of Nick's risky tactics. Dumb but really, really fun. Eastwood is the balls as is Charlie Sheen as his sidekick. The action is so over the top, the bar room scene when Sheen flies solo is one of my favourites and Clint even manages to get raped and ends up in a DIY skin flick.

Some great action scenes in this movie, but the story was pretty straight-forward. A green by-the-book rookie is transformed into a kick-butt cop on his 1st case when he is teamed up with a no-nonsense veteran who does things his own way.

Shameless B-movie trash that came out 2 years before The Unforgiven. Features Eastwood as a raging prick who apparently chews on broken glass when he's bored. Easy to forget Charlie Sheen was on top of the movie world at this time. Of course, his taste for the low-life and his lack of interest in finding a decent script did him in. Also features the late great Raul Julia as the merciless villain and the Brazilian seductress/torture queen Sonia Braga.

Quaid's effortlessly compelling and engagingly earnest performance keeps pic grounded in down-to-earth reality.

This was a great Blockbuster rental... seriously would watch it whenever it was on cable.
