While never taking credit away from the other rescuers who also risked life and limb, The Rescue comes back to the bunch of self-described oddballs who got the kids out.

This type of material makes you see that the development of documentaries is much more interesting to make. A great example of a virtue that is always born to us as humans in this type of event: Solidarity. But it doesn't feel like it really brings something new to documentaries, another very god documentary film from National Geographic.

This is a great movie from the directors of FREE SOLO. The amount of claustrophobic and unsettling shots is unreal as it shows what it really takes to be a hero.

The Rescue is a gripping, unsurprisingly moving early account, one that emphasizes the pluck and ingenuity of its heroes and the resilience and beauty of its survivors. To say that it feels necessarily incomplete is to acknowledge the extraordinary and extraordinarily multifaceted story it has to tell.

Just when you think humanity is doomed, documentaries like 'The Rescue' give you hope on what can be achieved when everyone cooperates towards a common end. And what best reward than knowing you saved a life. And that, to me, it's the point of this film: homaging those who risked their lives to accomplish the impossible. Also, the reenactments here are nearly flawless; you'll have a hard time telling those apart from archival footage.
