Highly recommend it! Mira Nair is very brave to portray 9/11 in this film without showing American heroism. Instead, she shows the discrimination that a particular ethnic group so vividly experienced following the 9/11 events. Nothing fictional about that. Yet it is very nuanced and delicate in dealing with the events. Nair tactfully shows the other side of the coin while most filmmakers choose to ignore it. Beautiful writing. Great acting. I haven't read the book but certainly recommend the film. Certainly makes us think about our own perspectives.

I was a bit 'reluctant' to watch this movie as I was aware that the plot had been expanded into a thriller, but I was pleasantly surprised. Instead of feeling let down every time there was a change from the novel, I found myself growing in anticipation as the series of events set in motion following the kidnapping of the American professor unfolded. Riz Ahmed turns out a stellar performance as the protagonist.

Mira Nair transported me to Lahore (and Istanbul ) for 2 hours, like only she can. Great soundtrack and great cast with one notable miscasting of Kate Hudson. Enjoyable if you went for the cross culture experience than for insights into the origins of fundamentalism.

Keifer sutherland as a gay man was a bit disorienting. Kate Hudson was miscast I think. But all that is forgivable because of Riz Ahmend. Great story as well.
