A superior cop thriller vaguely similar to 'No Country For Old Men' set in rural Spain. The episodic structure is done very well - you never know exactly where the story is heading and Bugallo is great in the decent old policeman role. Sanchez-Cabezudo - definitely a director to watch out for.

Set in rural Spain in a town which looks as though it will eventually fall prey to urbanisation, the film is split into several segments looking at a chain events from different perspectives. After a harrowing but bravely shot near rape scene, the film slows to a snails pace and never regains the tension is should hold over the audience. The slow realisation by the Police Chief of what is actually happening is the film's main strong point but with an ending which was disappointingly lacklustre this film is not really worth the bother.

Disturbing, yet compulsive film centred around the murder of a young woman and the rape of another and the series of events that spiral out of control. Gripping, original, but left me with a slightly uncomfortable feeling at the end. Good sideburn rating: 1/10 - Couple of beardy potholers, roughing it in the Spanish countryside. Er nope. Presence of sartorially elegant men: 0/10 - and again, couple of beardy potholers, roughing it in the Spanish countryside. One mark less than sideburns for character with rat's tail hair style.

Watchable Spanish thriller told in short vignettes from different characters' POV. A female potholer is raped and a case of mistaken identity leads to murder and blackmail... The story builds nicely and the structure allows more secrets to be revealed as we witness the same events from different characters.
