The Man Without a Face (1993)

Justin McLeod is a former teacher who lives as a recluse on the edge of town after his face is disfigured from an automobile accident ten years earlier, in which a boy was incinerated--and for which he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. Also suspected of being a paedophile, he is befriended by Chuck, causing the town's suspicions and hostility to be ignited.

One of my favourite movies of all time! Love it! First saw it when I was channel flicking then trecked here there and everywhere to get it on video! Absolutely a must have for any movie collection!

I love this movie, and remember every word from it; both Mel Gibson's and Nick Stahl's tour de force performances light up the screen.

Mel Gibson is very effective as both director and lead character in this story of the friendship between a disfigured outcast and a lonely youth. Some of the language is unnecessarily crude and the theme is intense, but it is a wonderful depiction of the power of friendship and forgiveness. The wonderful yet bittersweet ending is one that I always find deeply moving, no matter how many times I see this movie. I rated it 5 stars and hopefully all 5 stars will show up this time!
