The Madness of King George (1994)

Aging King George III of England is exhibiting signs of madness, a problem little understood in 1788. As the monarch alternates between bouts of confusion and near-violent outbursts of temper, his hapless doctors attempt the ineffectual cures of the day. Meanwhile, Queen Charlotte and Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger attempt to prevent the king's political enemies, led by the Prince of Wales, from usurping the throne.

another extremely well done historical movie...could watch it over and over and i would always love it

Compelling rendition of Alan Bennett's play of the same name starting Nigel Hawthorne as King George and Helen Mirren as Queen Charlotte. Like most of Bennett's work this is concerned first and foremost with how people's behaviour is affected by their social position. This film depicts the course of one of King George's bouts of madness that would ultimately lead to the appointment of his son as Regent. It is a rich and fascinating study of how the situation arose, developed and was finally resolved.

Well its one of the greats!,A cast to absolutely die for,parts of the film are funny,sad,uplifting,wiity,but most of all moving,some of the scenes acted by Hawthorne and Mirren as the royal couple cant fail to bring a lump to your throat,trully remarkable.
