The Little Mermaid (2023)

The youngest of King Triton's daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric.

Disney hates you. It hates your fond memories of a simpler and happier time free of modern day politics. It hates authentic and realistic casting. It hates making new and original entertainment, and it'll no doubt hate this low score I'mDisney hates you. It hates your fond memories of a simpler and happier time free of modern day politics. Woke, overly long, and Halle's songs are all auto-tune. So anyone suggesting that is good signing can probably do better that what you hear in this mess. The CGI is terrible with actual divergences, suggesting that when it was baked there were system issues, and no one cared. They just shipped it with encoding issue. The "real" CGI characters have no ability to emote, which robs a lot of the charm of the original movie. A total disaster.

In the end, does a live-action The Little Mermaid feel vital? No. It gives fans of the animated original pretty much the same movie, beat for beat, with some slight adjustments that score on the positive side.

For all its pizazz, everything about this Little Mermaid is just more muted.
