The Little Mermaid (2023)

The youngest of King Triton's daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. With mermaids forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father's crown – in jeopardy.

The special effects and voice acting are good, but they don't have the charm of the original movie.

The human world, it's a mess, but with Halle Bailey, life under the sea is better than anything Disney live-action has done in nearly a decade.

Best Live Action! It's not 100% like the animated version, and that's okay! This is new, fresh, diverse, and magical! Halle's voice is perfect for Ariel, she is so adorable and embodies the character perfectly. The way she expresses herself, the body language, the chemistry!! I loved every single character. I also loved the setting, the display of the culture, makes way more sense for the movie! It's funny and beautiful.

Bailey nails the iconic moments (that head toss) and the high notes, but also her character’s combination of spunk and innocence. She delivers a lovely performance that’s all the more accomplished for being delivered amid crashing waves, sweeping vistas and the crushing expectations of generations of fans. As a new generation’s Ariel, she makes The Little Mermaid her own — with confidence, charisma and oceans of charm.

I liked the acting (especially Halle Bailey) and the expansion of the original story. The talking animal animations again suffered from over realism, but since it was less prominent than in The Lion King. It is okay. My kid loved the movie (also the 1989 version - so she knows them both) and that is more than enough for me (but having a stupid right-wing-crowd feeling obligated to review-bomb while peeing their pants and getting a stroke is a nice bonus, I might add). If this is woke, then by all means being non woke apparently means hating children - specifically your own. And if your kids are getting "confused" (by what?) then it is not their fault or Disney's but their parents.
