Best concert film I've ever seen, and the one that got me addicted to the music of The Band. It would rate five stars even if it was just The Band performing, but you also get performances by Neil Young, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, Muddy Waters, Neil Diamond and a host of others. The Band backs them all -- an impressive feat given the diversity of the artists present.

It's extraordinary. I've seen it so much that I've almost worn out the disc.

Scorsese + Some of the greatest musicians of our time = The best concert film ever made.

More of a celebration of rock and roll catharsis than a lament of the end of a brilliant run for Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm and company.

If you're a fan of bubble gum, teeny bopper music this might still mean something to you. If you are a fan of artistry, character and unbelievable talent--then this is the greatest rock doc of all time and one of best documentaries of any type I've seen in fifty years of loving documentary film making.
