In ice hockey, no one is tougher than the "goon". Those players have one mission: to protect the star players at any price. A good look at Chris Nilan's career and a few passing glances at other former tough guys from the NHL. Gibney nicely stays away form taking sides in the hockey fight debate, and merely presents us with a portrait of a man at his professional peak and the break-down that follows, but also the job of putting himself back together again. Good, but not great stuff.

If you enjoy hockey this is a good documentary about Chris Nilen and other "Enforcers" on teams who start and finish the fights and their lives after the NHL.

Brian Orndorf 15 Feb 2013

Reflecting the sweep of aggression that swallowed the game throughout the 20th century, Gibney tackles his points smartly, laboring to communicate the thrill of combat and the shock of retirement.

In a way, this doc is Bully, grown up, and from the bully's perspective.

Interesting look at the life of an NHL enforcer Chris "Knuckles" Nilan. If you're not into sport documentaries don't bother.
