The Infidel (2010)

Based in a London suburb Mahmud Nasir lives with his wife, Saamiya, and two children, Rashid and Nabi. His son plans to marry Uzma, the step-daughter of Egyptian-born Arshad Al-Masri, a so-called 'Hate Cleric' from Waziristan, Pakistan. Mahmud, who is not exactly a devout Muslim, he drinks alcohol, and does not pray five times, but does agree that he will appease Arshad, without whose approval the marriage cannot take place. Shortly thereafter Mahmud, while going over his recently deceased mother's documents, will find out that he was adopted, his birth parents were Jewish, and his name is actually Solly Shimshillewitz.

I found it to be a lovely film that underlines the importance of family and being yourself.

This movie is funny and outrageous, with many hilarious moments. Djalili and Schiff are great comedians with terrific timing. They work together really well and never lose the audience. Mix influences from early Woody Allen, Richard Pryor, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Bollywood, stir, and you've got the Infidel. The movie may be predictable, but it's never sappy or preachy.

Astutely combining sharp comedy with complex political and theological issues, this film is packed with strong themes and vivid characters that keep us interested even as the plot drifts into silly slapstick.

parts of this are British comedy set in London are side-splittingly funny. other scenes not so relevant. if you have the required basics on Muslim/Jewish relations then you'll be rewarded with a thoroughly entertaining film.
