I feel for Jerry Stiller's Morty Fineman. Why can't he have his buffalo? The script calls for a whole herd! I think that's one of the funniest scenes in the movie, but the whole thing has me in stitches whenever I watch. Roman numerals to denote movie sequels? Fineman invented those, like "World War III II." Stiller is amazing in this role, and he has a good supporting cast, though this is about as close to a one-man show as you can get these days. I thought this movie was brilliant, and it really showed the spirit of the amateur, through the good times and the bad.

The Independent is at once the most insubstantial and doleful mockumentary of the early 2000s. As many major publications round up favourable reviews, they present themselves as counterfactual -- critiques that demand critiquing.

It's cute and amiable, maybe easier to cherish if you don't recall Russ Meyer or Matinee or Ed Wood.

Hilarious mockumentary/narrative with some really, really great fake movies. Here are some low-budget films that aren't entirely inconcievable and are completley absurd and amazing. The ending is suprising in that it feels pretty genuine, and the laughs never stop. Excellent use of cameos.
