Eight years after fleeing the Congo following his assassination of that country's minister of mining, former assassin Jim Terrier is back, suffering from PTSD and digging wells to atone for his violent past. After an attempt is made on his life, Terrier flies to London to find out who wants him dead -- and why. Terrier's search leads him to a reunion with Annie, a woman he once loved, who is now married to an oily businessman with dealings in Africa.

Very good movie! Way better than the reviews indicate. Sean Penn was really good and there was lots of action!

I went to see this movie hoping for decent dose of action and in that sense it mainly delivered. The action scenes are loud, intense, and well filmed. This movie's problem, however, is not the quality of the action, but rather the quantity. If it had been skillfully written and filled with interesting characters or sneaky plot twists then a ton of action scenes would not have been necessary to keep my attention. Unfortunately the writing in this film is rather weak, so whenever the action let up my heart began to sink as I had to sit through uninspired drama. If they had not chosen to slow down as much then this film could have been at least a pleasant distraction. As it stands it is just another example of movies trying to be what Taken was and failing.

Almost an attempt at another 'Bourne'-type of series. The plot is deep, but a bit confusing. The action sequences are pretty cool and violent at the same time. This is a rollercoaster of action, and then slow plot development. Nonetheless, an action movie with depth.

I enjoyed this more than I expected I would, mainly because of the cast and because I was pleasantly surprised that the movie was not just a derivative Taken knock-off.

Competent thriller, with a little bit of Politics thrown in. Very violent in parts, but mostly well acted. Interesting to see the great Mark Rylance on film. I am not sure he is wholly suited to the part, but does his best, as does Idris Elba, with all too little to do. Ray Winstone also shines although is rather typecast. Penn himself is plausible and does all the running around and shooting things. He is less convincing when required to converse with the other actors. Nice use of locations including a Russell Group medical school. Loved the Interpol character whose business card gave his address as my old place of work. Refreshingly un-American.
