So smooth and satisfying it makes the similar "Ocean's Eleven" look like a game of three-card monte.

Unlike the crispness of the original, the word that best describes this production is lassitude, from characters so tired they can't manage to speak intelligibly to the listless caper(s) plot that seems doomed from the beginning.

I like films that successfully give actors fish out of water characters. The professional in a foreign land. Here we get a good American in Nice exercise and it brings out the best in Nolte.

A slick, stylish heist film with some magnificent performances - Nolte, in particular, is a marvel to behold and the scenes with him and the equally great Tcheky Karyo are positively electric to watch - and a tight, well-played plot (the twist, especially, is fantastic, particularly because it's hinted at throughout and yet we're misled, just like the 'Judas' character, Said). However, Jordan's choppy, jarring editing style and the cast's heavy accents and regular mumbling let the film down to a degree.

Watched it again -- this is one of the very few movies that i never get tired of. I also think this is Nick Nolte's best work ever and i find him to be relatively talanted. Extra credit for being stylish, but in its own kind of a way, and for picturing europe in a way that makes you want to drop everything, buy a ticket and just go. If you haven't seen this one, but like "Ronin" and "Italian Job", watch it.
