The Front Line (2009)

United by an uncompromising struggle as members of the infamous 1970s far-left terrorist group Prima Linea, fugitive couple Sergio and Susanna have become increasingly alienated from the real world. Their luck runs out when Susanna is captured and thrown in jail. Putting his life on the line, Sergio embarks on a radical plan... Loosely based on the memoir by Prima Linea's 'commander' Sergio Segio.

A noble attempt to tell the story of a Congolese refugee, Joe Yumba, (wonderfully acted by Eroq Ebouaney) living in Dublin who must retrieve his son, being held hostage, from a gang of violent Irish thugs. Along the way we learn the truth about Joe Yumba and the horrible circumstances that brought him and his so called family to Dublin. The elements of a great story are there but the pacing falls flat without any build up. It is probably the first movie to use Viagra as a torture tool!

This is a particularly good film. Really well put together with an interesting and moving plot. I thoroughly recommend this film to those who appreciate true love.

Unique storyline that goes off the regular track. Good development of both characters and script.

This was an OK movie. It's been a little hard for me to put a finger on why it didn't completely work. First, I think there was just too much exposition. Too many monologues that explicitly outlined the character's philosophy. Second, I thought the interweaving of plot and flashback was clumsy. I felt jerked around and confused a little bit. *** SPOILER *** Finally, I thought it was bizarre how they handled the bad guy in the movie. He was the driving force for the entire plot, until about the middle of the movie, when he just basically disappeared. There was no final showdown, no standoff between philosophies, no final resolution of the tension between antagonist and protaganist. The antagonist just kinda vanished. I thought that was really odd. *** END SPOILER *** Anyway, I am glad I saw the movie, but it's just average.
