The Food of the Gods (1976)

Morgan and his friends are on a hunting trip on a remote Canadian island when they are attacked by a swarm of giant wasps. Looking for help, Morgan stumbles across a barn inhabited by an enormous killer chicken. After doing some exploring, they discover the entire island is crawling with animals that have somehow grown to giant size. The most dangerous of all of these, however, are the rats, who are mobilizing to do battle with the human intruders.

A classic cheesy horror movie from Bert I. Gordon from the 70s about rats, wasps, chickens, and a rooster that eat a substance that causes them to grow to gigantic proportions. I felt that certain threads of the plot could have been explored that weren't. For example, the substance doesn't affect those who initially consume it, but their offspring. The film features a pregnant woman. How come they didn't take advantage of that by having her accidentally consume some of the substance, even off camera so as to surprise the viewer, and have her baby be born monsterous? Strangely enough, the film does feature a birth sequence in the middle of all the action. Overall a fun and cheesy production; I was just expecting more.

Despite the title, this has nothing to do with the HG Wells story it was supposedly based on. The mutant creatures look of normal size and it really isn't very scary. This is bad, even for a B-movie.

Bad effects even for its time. Great make up artist though. I couldn't get past the beginning. This is just silly.

Quite possibly one of the worst films I've ever seen, of any genre. Not even in a 'so bad it's good' way. It's just bad. Just another entry in a series of Jaws echos.

so the title sounded good, but the plot looked terrible, so I watched it with no expectations and it wasnt that bad. It was pretty rediculous, but it was entertaining. The bees sounded more like wild cats than bees, so the sound effects sucked. Overall not as bad as it sounds. The giant maggots were deffinately unexpected!
