I loved this movie, even though I had to close my eyes during some of the torture scenes, because it was so authentic. It is an incredible, and true story about one man's quest for redemption and acknowledgment, and the people that both support him and block him in his path. The children were particularly wonderful, as was the actress who played the teacher.

Good film to watch if you want too see the history of a different culture with compelling enough characters based on real life people to make the journey fun. Enjoyable watch.

The First Grader offers a tumultuous but uplifting journey.

THE FIRST GRADER moves you in ways that few movies actually do. Everything from the story, to the story-telling, the music, the cast, the shots... Everything was pitch perfect. This is one movie to look out for come Oscar time...

It's an inspiring, uplifting - if sentimental - docudrama, pulling the heartstrings with the best of intentions.
