Working in an improvisatory vein, in actual locations rather than constructed sets, writer-director Dominic Savage gives this story of a married woman's despair and awakening a powerful, lived-in immediacy. It's also the story of a man's struggle to understand his wife's pain, and the tortured, tender chemistry between leads Arterton and Dominic Cooper is profoundly affecting, at times shattering.

Thanks to Savage's immersive, often improvisational approach and a compellingly raw, internal turn by Arterton ("Gemma Bovery," "Their Finest") as an everyday woman who seemingly has it all... Tara's claustrophobic world and increasingly checked-out mindset feel undeniably authentic. It's also all a bit grueling to watch.

Yet the dreariness of Tara's marriage to a dull bloke (Dominic Cooper) is also rather a bore for viewers, and when she tries to break free, the movie loses its way.

White it's not a perfect movie and has some flaws, essentially its pretty excellent both acting and story wise. Gemma Arterton is awesome and so is Dominic Cooper and they occupy the majority of the movie. It's a story that needs to be told. Not everyone wants the same suburban life that is thrust upon us as if there are no alternatives to the stereotypical family life. This perspective has been portrayed before in movies, Revolutionary Road comes to mind. The characters are always torn because they believe there is something wrong with them rather than the flawed stereotypical married with children life we're expected to both wholly accept and admire.

Some fine acting from both leads but within limited character and plot development. , Generally felt frustrated at the lack of explanation for the female position as someone who undoubtably had depression. The film relied on creating an atmosphere of suffocation through mainly being inside the house, same 4 characters..,but the loneliness and difficulties of being an at home mother are far more nuanced than presumptive bad sex from the husband... Felt more sympathy for the out of date male character who wanted desperately to not lose his wife, who he loves. The film portrays a male who tries to understand and communicate against a female who walks out the room . Maybe a good starter point for current gender role discussion, but lacking in explanation of the female side of the story
