The ostensible genre elements that seem to pitch The Double Hour somewhere between crime film and ghost story begin to look like the stuff of an allegory about modern relationships and the fright of commitment.

The Double Hour would like to fool us into believing that it is really a story about people rather than crime, gimmicks and twists, but it really is just fooling itself.

Doesn't always deliver on its twists. But it works well enough that an American remake is in the works.

The third-act twist is just a huge middle-finger to the audience. "We couldn't think of a way to finish this story, so here's the oldest twist in the book." Fuck off.
