a good film. imram ahmad's (might be wrong) score is excellent. the film manages suspense and some scares. its shot with a grainy old school drive in flick feel to it. the acting was pretty good, except for the lead actor. i just didnt feel he was right for the role. he looked phoney. despite its plot it manages some teary scenes. this film is obviously going to be a cult classic in many years to come, for that is its destiny... you can tell what happens to daniel, and the people in the plane at the beginning of the film because it does a foreshadowing thing. the gore effects are so-so, in some scenes its disgusting and cringe inducing, in others its pretty laughable.

In the category of Zombie Movies, this is for sure one of the best ones. In the tradition of George A. Romero, "The Dead" creates a creepy atmosphere with slow moving Zombies who are, nevertheless, very threatening. The pictures of Africa are amazing and the movie avoids cliches and shows a very human side of this beautiful continent. But still: there are the Living Dead and they are creating a sense of goose pimples not felt since the Eighties. "The Dead" is slow, gory, but the consistent sense of threat that is in the air, combined with a realistic approach, makes it one of the best genre movies so far! Sequel? Yes. Please!

A brilliantly shot Zombie film, with a few newer ideas and admirable attempts at commenting on the State of modern Africa. That said it has a few issues which hold it back but its still fun and well made.
