What a character. Such poetry and Cadiz moments though; I've never seen anything like this.

Okay, I guess I'll watch. Less of a documentary about New York (which I was expecting), and more of a fascinating character study of a weird, articulate eccentric tour guide who can make Chatsworth sound dynamic. Timothy Lavitch doesn't love New York City like a 3 year old loves his mommy. He loves New York City like a giant organism, a human being. He wants the city to appreciate HIS beauty as much as the other way around. Along the tour he tells stories at rapid fire rate and provides his own crazy philosophy on life. Or maybe it's us who's crazy. Good documentary.

The Cruise is being hailed as a harbinger of a future in which indie film will be liberated by low-cost technology. If this is where we're going, I want off the bus.

This unusual documentary, which kicked off the career of director Bennett Miller, is well worth a look even if sitting thru the whole thing will present a challenge. Meet Timothy "Speed" Levitch, who is the sole character in this piece. He is a motor-mouthed commentator/thinker who works as a tour guide in New York City. From his perch on the upper deck of a tour bus, Levitch regales and challenges us with a fast and steady stream of observations, many of which come from out in left field but which all show a sharp mind at work. Unfortunately sharp minds are not always sound minds, and Levitch eventually tests our patience with his nasal New York voice and kooky ideas.

65/100. Documentary with New York City tour guide Tim Levich. I watched this because it was on RT interview with Edward Norton's 5 favorite films. I liked his other 4, so thought I would give it a try. It was interesting, I can't say I loved it though. Tim Levich is as fascinating as he is informative as he is irritating. Wonderful footage of New York, and even though I have lived there in the past, I still learned new things. Not for all tastes, but admire the effort.
