It lacks the fevered sincerity (and the political timeliness) of Romero's original, but it's tightly scripted, cleverly cast, consistently scary, occasionally funny--everything you could ask from a well-made and completely unnecessary remake.

The Crazies is better than the usual scary fare. Yes, it has some of the same absurdities and implausibilities as most of the others (WHY do people walk around aimlessly in the dark near places where the bad guys can jump out at you?), but the acting and writing is better than most. It held my attention throughout and I was entertained. There was a lot of violence, but I actually don't think it's as gory as most in this genre.

For what It's worth, it must be hard to make a zombie-esque film as they've been done like dinner. Overcooked and all! Did 'The Crazies' feature characteristic, horror film cliches? Why yes, it did. Truthfully it would be hard not too given the genre is overstuffed with these type of movies. However the finished product (in truth) turned out to be a lot more fresh and original than most living dead features these days. Not too shabby for a remake. As long as you're not expecting to bare witness to a Academy award-winning screenplay you'll be fine.

"Кинематографичный, интересный, затягивающий - вот каким должен быть фильм-аттракцион, но не такой как этот" Отличнейшая задумка и отличнейшая реализация. Очень грустно что фильм остался незамеченным. Мало маркетинга . Концовка с посылом на вторую часть в которой собственно фильм не нуждается и это можно понять. Так и не рассказали кто всем заведует, кто тот самый наблюдатель.

Breck Eisner of the dismal Sagara directed this effective remake of the George Romero (Night of the Living Dead) classic. Although I've never seen the original I really enjoyed the new version. It doesn't really bring anything new to the table but in referencing modern films such as 28 Days Later and the Dawn of the Dead remake the movie had an undeniable ferocity to it and it's no doubt disturbing. The film centers around a small town where the residents begin acting strangely and than psychotically. Unlike other similar films they're still people but they act out on murderous impulses and have a great time while doing it. The movie is edge of your seat and the lead performances from hunky Josh Duhamel (Scream 2) and Radha Mitchell (Silent Hill) as the sheriff and the town doctor are solid and relatable. Also good are Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th remake) and Joe Anderson (Horns). Although it covers familiar territory it does so in a refreshing way. All in all it's entertaining and creepy.
