Weir's first feature is a dark comic look at social mechanics as well as literal ones, although it is slightly amateurish the premise is great and featuring good turns from an impotent mayor (John Meillon) and a young Bruce Spence as the village idiot, Bruce Smeaton's core too is suitably nervy (complete with a Morricone pastiche)

Hmmm... the story really stunk. And I like bad B cult/horror flicks, but this one was just awful. Skip it & see THE PLUMBER instead.

Very fun bit of Ozploitation. Most curious is that this trashy story of an outback town that creates car accidents on unsuspecting travelers (echos of "2000 Maniacs") is that it was directed by Peter Weir of "Dead Poets Society" fame. Another fun bit is that the film included many familiar Australian actors of the time, including Bruce Spence, best know as the Gyro Captain in "The Road Warrior".

well, one of my friends explained this movie to me, and the entire time she's explaining it, I'm trying to think of why someone would come up with a plot this idiotic and retarded.

One of the most bizarre films I have seen. Confusing from start to finish yet there are moments where you can see the emerging of the great Peter Weir. Worth seeing if you are a fan of Weir, 70's cheesy horror, or married an Australian.
