A surprisingly well-done and scary horror film. This little gem is rarely talked about, but deserves high status. My favorite Cronenberg film.

Oliver Reed plays a very, very naughty doctor who's idea of an EST encounter for neurotics REALLY REALLY works. It works too well, causing the participants' bodies to rebel against them, growing hideous tumor and giving birth to mutant offspring who run amok in an orgy of death, with the killing and the devouring of flesh and the blood-slurping, and the bone ripping and the marrow-sucking....OK, a slight exaggeration, but they are surely every baby-sitters evening from Hell.

Early Cronenberg classic about an unconventional type of psychology called "psychoplasmics" which involves the physical manifestation of rage which come to our main character in the form of mutant children who murder their victims with mallets. Weird movie with lots of unsettling imagery but very well done.

What more can you say about a movie that has deformed midgets in snow suits, quack psychotherapy, and something called psychoplasmatics in which trauma manifests itself via body alteration. This is Cronenberg body horror at its most visceral and albeit most flawed in some eyes. Howard Shore's score as per usual adds so many more layers to the film. Its a guilty pleasure if even for the bombastic acting of Oliver Reed who looks positively bloated by whatever gin he's drinking... and it works so well.
