The Brain That Wouldn't Die (1962)

Dr. Bill Cortner and his fiancée, Jan Compton, are driving to his lab when they get into a horrible car accident. Compton is decapitated. But Cortner is not fazed by this seemingly insurmountable hurdle. His expertise is in transplants, and he is excited to perform the first head transplant. Keeping Compton's head alive in his lab, Cortner plans the groundbreaking yet unorthodox surgery. First, however, he needs a body.

Un film absolument grandiose, avec des effets spÃ©ciaux sublimes. Le tout avec un scÃ©nario plein de rebondissements.

This movie stands out in the realm of 'bad sci-fi' because conceptually, it's pretty damn twisted. It takes the notion of the legendary Frankenstein type and places him squarely in a modern context, fitted out with his own secret lab in the basement, a disfigured assistant, even a monster locked in the closet. And he's a practicing surgeon by day! That in itself frames the weirdness. Then there's the fetishy moments in the middle when he goes hunting for a new body for his girlfriend's severed head. Nice! It's bad, but low-budget enough to get you thinking about 'what if this were real?' just tips it off the scale of normal. A classic of the 'mad scientist' genre, my favorite kind.

I have seen this numerous times, I just don't lose interest. I know it's not cinematic genius or anything, but I still love it.

Take mad doctor. Add his fiancee's maniacal disembodied head. Throw in a giant one-eyed mutant who rips guys' arms out, and a catfight between two strippers. Shake real well. Result: the ULTIMATE 50's drive-in classic.

This is one wierd movie. It moves along pretty slowly. It's kind of interesting but not a real good movie. The main doctor had very strange ideas. Although these days, the ideas are basically realistic but not in this manner. It was strange how we was going about his experiements.
