One of the best WWI film ever made, to bad the German soldiers are armed with British rifles, but truly excellent

George Peppard shines in his role as the arrogant Bruno Satchel. Great actiion scenes and you'll fly right along with the pilots. Even Ursula Andress gives a good performance here and James Mason is perfect for his role. What makes this movie great to me is the underlying theme that war is disastrous. It highlights the facade that war is somehow glorious and those who partake are somehow gallant. Yes, a fitting surprise ending!

I am impressed with the CGI flying scenes in the recent KING KONG and the movie FLYBOYS. I loved George Peppard in Breakfast at Tiffany's with Audrey Hepburn. What's funny is that in both films he seem's sort out of place. First, he doesn't strike me as the "Writer"-type in Tiffany's. Second, in a world-class group of actors in the Blue Max speaking with thick-German accents, he's the only GERMAN who sound's like an AMERICAN from Chicago. But...once I quietly sidestep that problem and suspend my disbelief, the film is FANTASTIC. The aerial sequences were the best of their time. I am HOPING, that when they release the RED BARON later this year, it will have the best of Acting, the best of Writing, and the best Action Sequences. I carry this DVD along with my CDS.

A reminder, if reminders were needed, that the war to end all wars was a war for the preservation of the aristocracy, on both sides.
