Made using a small budget and actors with limited talent, the story is supposedly a metaphor for the threat of Communism to the US, but with a charming Steve McQueen (in his first starring role) leading a pack of likeable youths, middle America is in safe hands. The special effects and score provide the occasional thrill, but the film's title song is perhaps what it is best known for. In all, this is a standout from the cycle of monster movies and creature features that came out of the 1950s. Followed by the purposely-bad sequel, 'Beware! The Blob' in 1972 and an effective remake in 1988.

Any movie that includes a catchy song about a gelatinous monster is worth watching. This movie was great, with just enough science and fiction to satisfy me. I didn't like how the movie just began to sag in the middle, at the part where absolutely nothing happened, for about 30 minutes, or the fact that the first solution to killing the blob was the way "The Brain Eaters" ended. But apart from the middle, the beginning and the ending made up for it. A classic for all sci-fi horror lovers.
