A drive-in favorite, this sci-fi classic follows teenagers Steve and his best girl, Jane, as they try to protect their hometown from a gelatinous alien life form that engulfs everything it touches. The first to discover the substance and live to tell about it, Steve and Jane witness the blob destroying an elderly man, then it growing to a terrifying size. But no one else has seen the goo, and policeman Dave refuses to believe the kids without proof.

Absolute classic that belongs in any horror fans collection. It's got it all - invasion from space, complacent adults, teenage angst and a faceless implacable enemy. The film starts with a meteor strike which releases the blob into earth's environment. The blob wastes no time in absorbing anyone in it's path and growing. When a couple of local teens try to warn the sheriff, they are met with complete disbelief...until the blob is too big to ignore. The adults try to destroy it head on, but it feeds on the energy of conventional weapons. Once more, teens to the rescue! They workout the creatures weak point and save the day! Fascinating special effects (for the time) and a fun ride throughout. The Blob is as appealing today as when it was released.

A classic old movie with good acting and fantastic special effects for it`s time!

Made using a small budget and actors with limited talent, the story is supposedly a metaphor for the threat of Communism to the US, but with a charming Steve McQueen (in his first starring role) leading a pack of likeable youths, middle America is in safe hands. The special effects and score provide the occasional thrill, but the film's title song is perhaps what it is best known for. In all, this is a standout from the cycle of monster movies and creature features that came out of the 1950s. Followed by the purposely-bad sequel, 'Beware! The Blob' in 1972 and an effective remake in 1988.
