Veracity is undermined by the very idea that the subjects somehow are actors in their own story -- and yet The Apple is still quite touching.

Shockingly poignant and necessary viewing for any beginning filmmaker. Makhmalbaf does a brilliant job showing without telling---letting the audience draw their own conclusions. And, despite lack of big-budget, the film takes on a haunting, mystical quality. Great film!

A captivating part-documentary, part-recreation of actual events with the people who lived through it. A fantastic portrayal of how sociological, economic and patriarchal forces damage people. Too bad it's not available on Region 1 DVD.
