Thief Duke Anderson—just released from ten years in jail—takes up with his old girlfriend in her posh apartment block, and makes plans to rob the entire building. What he doesn't know is that his every move is being recorded on audio and video, although he is not the subject of any surveillance.

Wonderful early Sidney Lumet movie starring Sir Sean Connery as a former fellon who plans to set-up one last heist. The movie features an excellent cast that includes an energetic Christopher Walken in his film debut, as well as, Martin Balsam as a flamboyant charmer. The film deals with the issue of surveillance and the emerging technologies at the time of wiretaps (well before Coppola's masterpiece 'The Conversation'). Dyan Canon plays Connery's love interest, with shades of a Tiffany Case from 'Diamonds are Forever'. Well directed and great shots of 1970s New-York as we would later see in more of Lumet's more mature efforts. Definitely worth the watch! I hear that a remake is scheduled for 2010.

Singularly unique... Bizarro Quincy Jones moog soundtrack paired with typically dialogue busy Lumet tone and unorthodox editing throw some real curveballs.

Though it could well of been better and explored its theme of surveillance somewhat more this is a fairly decent, well acted and enjoyable crime film that is made all the more watchable thanks to Connery.

Appears to be about something, then suddenly isn't. Scene in the apartment where they discuss how to off "Socks" is terrific.
