Shyer could have tightened the actors' creative reins a bit, along with the meandering story, but alas, we instead get an all-too-much Affair to forget.

The storytelling is hopelessly compromised by the movie's decision to sympathize with Jeanne. We can admire someone for daring to do the audacious, or pity someone for recklessly doing something stupid, but when a character commits an act of stupid audacity, the admiration and pity cancel each other, and we are left only with the possibility of farce.

excellent story involving the tragedy of Marie Antoinette. Hilary Swank gives a flat out amazing performance.

Hilary Swank is a lovely woman, there is no doubt, but this isn't one of her better performances. Check it out for the costumes if you must.

Hillary Swank's best movie to date. The story takes place just before the French revolution, and it chronicals the events involving Marie-Antoinette and her necklace which ultimately led to the revolution.
