Young Bart Collins lives with his widowed mother Heloise. The major blight on Bart's existence is the hated piano lessons he is forced to endure under the tutelage of the autocratic Dr. Terwilliker. Bart feels that his mother has fallen under Terwilliker's sinister influence, and gripes to visiting plumber August Zabladowski, without much result. While grimly hammering away at his lessons, Bart dozes off and enters a fantastical musical dream.

Hard to believe Theodor Geisel wrote this, because it is mostly comprised of immensely tedious dance numbers;and the sort of dance where the "dancers" are taking care not to dance lest they annoy a religious authority. So: timely in that sense, and there are a very few nifty scenes, but to paraphrase the immortal Doctor: "Do you like it?" "I do not."

I don't know why flixter says this movie was released in 2000, it came out in 1953. Stupid flixter.

this movie is an excellent remake oppurtunity for say a tim burton like director.. and it is ok but it is sooo 1950s that it bores me to no end...and the little boy is an ok actor but it all just seems a little silly to me...this movie may have worked in 1952 but heh this is 2008 and this movie doesnt stand the test of time.
