Sushi Girl (2012)

Fish has spent six years in jail. Six years alone. Six years keeping his mouth shut about the robbery, about the other men involved. The night he is released, the four men he protected with silence celebrate his freedom with a congratulatory dinner. The meal is a lavish array of sushi, served off the naked body of a beautiful young woman. The sushi girl seems catatonic, trained to ignore everything in the room, even if things become dangerous. Sure enough, the four unwieldy thieves can't help but open old wounds in an attempt to find their missing loot.

I enjoyed this movie more because I was lucky enough to attend the Australian premiere along with some of the cast and crew. But if there wasn't the excitement of all that involved I'm not sure how much I would have really liked it. It is very slow, playing out more like a stage play with most of the action happening in the one room surrounding a very attractive naked woman on a table who is covered in sushi. Hence Sushi Girl. The acting is brilliant but it feels more like something that would have worked better as a short film and they've dragged it out to feature length. Probably wont hit the cinemas in Australia but check out the trailer and then have a look on DVD if it interests you. 2/5

Nice to see Tony Todd in a real role again after a seemingly endless string of low-rent cameos, and Mark Hamill is a hoot.

There are parts that drag at the beginning, but once the ball gets rolling, it's pretty intense and graphic. All around fun performances, great cameos, and a satisfying ending.

This movie is a big crazy dose of geek candy! The performances are stellar. The directing is highly stylized! The plot is totally freaking original. Find me a fanboy out there doesn't want to see Mark Hamill playing an insanely wicked sociopath. This film is totally worth it! 5 STARS!!!
