Survival Quest (1989)

A bunch of city slickers from different backgrounds go into the wild mountains to be one with nature, but basically to have a good time. However, a paramilitary group has chosen the same time to go camping. When one of the soldiers thinks their boss has been killed by one of the city slickers, he coaxes his team into exterminating all of them. They will have to rely on their wits and on each other in order to survive.

The bad news is the violence is surprisingly restrained given the fact it's directed by Don (Phantasm) Coscarelli. The good news is...Lance Freakin Henriksen. All in all not bad for a cheesy 80's action/adventure film.

Not too shabby as far as a mid-level survivalist flick goes, though the tone veers wildly from afterschool special type lessons about others feelings to actual deaths by gunshot, which makes for an uneven viewing experience to say the least. Worth a rental for some decent (if slightly predictable) performances.

A fairly routine actioner. Devotees of the great Don Coscarelli will find it uninspired when viewed alongside the Phantasm movies, Bubba Ho-Tep, and even Kenny & Company. The plot is as follows: Two competing wilderness survival tours are flown out into the remote Rockies. One is led by Lance Henriksen, who is a lovey-dovey hippie who preaches the value of positivity and cooperation. The other group is a band of Young Republican nazis led by Rolston. Sooner or later, the nazis start to tear things up and get rowdy, and it's up to Henriksen and his ragtag team to stand up and lay the smack down on these bastards. The whole thing is kind of like a camp movie: Henriksen and company are your endearing slobs, and Rolston's commandos are your evil preppie snobs. A better cast than such a movie deserves elevates the proceedings.

From the director of Phantasm, a movie about going into the woods and being attacked by crazy people. I wish he had included the evil midgets from Phantasm.
