Great movie - not just about baseball. Many insights into the culture shock people are faced with upon arrival in the US. No one teaches these guys anything - that is just nuts! Also shows how hard people are willing to work to get into the US. Very sweet movie.

Sugar screens two more nights at the Belcourt. It is a very good film and I recommend it highly. The character arch departs from the predictable, as do the plot points. In addition, there are memorable shots that contribute rather than distract from the proceedings. Performances are generally understated and believable.

Algenis Perez Soto plays the character so openly, so naturally, that an interesting thing happens: Baseball is only the backdrop, not the subject. This is a wonderful film.

A very well made film about the challenges of baseball players from the Dominican Republic trying to work in the United States. Very entertaining even though at times it seems to drag a little bit.

This one slice of the American experience amounts to one of the best films of the year.
