Elizabeth Taylor+Montgomery Clift+Tennessee Williams and of course Katherine Hepburn created an extraordinary Southern Gothic tale that you can't soon forget. Of course Hollywood's Production Code forced the writers to offer only hints of the underlying theme of homosexuality. However, rather than taming the plot, the censors made it lurid. Moreover, to think that a common practice to treat "hysterical" women not so long ago was through a lobotomy makes this movie super, super scary. Netflix this one today!

I honestly cannot believe this movie's from 1959, it is so ahead of it's time! It must've caused a lot of controversy. It's just one of the best damn movies I have seen in my life. I always thought of Katharine Hepburn as being a good actress but never had I thought of seeing her in this intensely dramatic role which she played to perfection. The obsession of her character with her son is so disturbing but at the same time - judging Hepburns acting - impressive. Also, I had never seen a film with Elizabeth Taylor and this movie convinced me to see many, many more. There's more than beauty in this actress. Montgomery Clift is another great actor whom I intend to watch in many more movies. His character pulled us into a sane reality, as opposed to the other two I've mentioned. A great cast in an amazing, timeless movie.

Stellar cast. Stellar acting. Stellar movie. Montgomery Clift and Elizabeth Taylor don't miss a beat, and Katherine Hepburn falls perfectly in place in this twisted drama.

The acting is first rate all around, and Tennessee Williams' dialogue is predictably wonderful, though the film does feel a bit slow at times. The story itself is excellent. To imagine this was released in the 50's!

Love this movie adaptation ! Macabre, powerful imagery, harrowing and performances of great magnitude. Not to be missed !
