The fourth attempt to launch a series based on Gene Roddenberry's Genesis II (1973) and Planet Earth (1974). But Gene wasn't involved in this one, he opted out of this one to try his luck with horror (1975's excellent pilot, Spectre, which remains unavailable on DVD as 14/02/2011). So the network reworked the storyline and had Captain Anthony Vico (John Saxon who must have been getting tired of post-apocalyptic scenarios) and two companions returning from space after nearly 200 years in suspended animation only to blunder into a bizarre civilization of clones and then into an ancient zoo were the decendants of U.S. park rangers fight barbaric poachers. This was actually two episodes of a potential series strung together and released as a pilot in 1975. Gene soon started working on relaunching Star Trek which led to the motion picture in 1979.

This is more of a reboot than a sequel to Genesis 2. Though John Saxon did return for Strange New World he is not playing Dylan Hunt this time. Also I do not think that Gene Roddenberry was involved in this one. It isn't bad but it is by far my least favorite in the series. I think that it was an awful idea to reboot instead making a direct sequel. I recommend this one for compleshionists only.
