Stick (1985)

After getting out of jail, car thief Ernest "Stick" Stickley witnesses the murder of his friend Rainy during a drug deal. To avoid getting killed by the same people, who work for mobster Chucky, Stick gets a job as a chauffeur for millionaire Barry Braham and lies low. As he gets used to his new routine, Stick woos Barry's financial consultant, Kyle McClaren, but must fight back when Chucky's men come after him.

A typical and uncredible story and characters.

It's deeply flawed by Reynolds' less than lustruous but screen-hogging performance, by a tortuous but dull plot, and by leaden direction. One for completists only.

Burt Reynolds is one tough and cool son of a bitch. Elmore Leonard's characters are tough and cool sons of a bitches. So this movie makes sense. Not as good as Get Shorty or Justified but with fun co-stars like Candice Bergern and George Segal and a thoroughly eighties feel, this is a fun flick for anyone a fan of Burt, Elmore or 80s action flicks. If you're a fan of all three, you're in for a treat. Underrated.
