Stay Hungry (1976)

A dishonest businessman asks rich layabout Craig Blake to help him buy a gym, which will be demolished for a development project in Alabama. But after spending time with weightlifter Joe Santo and gym worker Mary Tate Farnsworth, Craig wants out of the deal. The property negotiations turn ugly, causing a brawl at the gym and a spectacle at a big bodybuilding meet, as Craig learns that it's not easy to turn your back on fair-weather friends.

Jeff Bridges! Arnold Schwartzenegger playing a body builder. What a stretch!(It was VERY early in Arnold's career.)

Originally wanted to see this movie just to see Sally Field naked, but I like most Jeff Bridges and Schwarzenegger movies too. I thought it was alright. It kept me interested the whole way through moreso than I would've thought, and Sally Field was just plain hot when she was my age...still is for her age. It was a lot of fun seeing these three when they were young. I love that it's based in Alabama too, cause that's where I've lived all my life!

Unusual, interesting, disjointed. I read Ebert's review and I'll agree with the idea that it's all about unusual people in contact with one another. Yes, this is a great showcase for Schwarzenegger and it's also a rare glimpse at Sally Field's behind (which is also a nice showcase). Bridges is the weak point in this one, the central character to whom the growth is supposed to occur, but I never felt that 1. Blake was from the south 2. he ever really grew up. Great to see Spinel and Englund in non-horror film roles.

Alamaba trust fund kid Jeff Bridges needs some direction in life befriends a groups at a local gym including perky love interest Sally Field and Austrian bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger. Although not much of a stretch for Arnold, he is at the top of his game - physically - here in 1976. Bridges and Field, both in their 20s, are a sexy couple and Sally even does a brief nude scene! Filled with southern charm and a supporting cast including Robert Englund, Joanna Cassidy, Fannie Flagg and Ed Begley Jr., the story is fairly basic but the film is quite enjoyable.
